If I say “Hawaii” what do you think of? Palm trees, sand, beach and the sun, but surely you are not thinking of a crazy Civic. Well, now you are. My visit to Hawaii took me to Kona, but after finding out that in Hilo there was an interesting Honda that someone wanted me to take a look at, I packed my camera and was on my way.
Hilo is a town located on the eastern side of Hawaii’s biggest island (The Big Island) with a population of about 45,000 inhabitants. Driving through the streets of this small town is very interesting, but as an automotive enthusiast and just coming back from Japan where I could find a modded car on a farm, I had to ask myself, “where are the hidden gems? I mean there must be something here.” Well here it is, the hidden gem of Hawaii’s Big Island, Clint’s 1996 Honda Civic CX.
I have always been a fan of small and light cars and there is something about a front wheel drive car that has interested me, when they are done correctly. The fact that this Civic is a nonturbo is great and has pushed Clint to make sure that the vehicle is better in other places than just power.
With a K24a4 block and bored to 87.5mm this little rocket puts out 260hp and 187tq and said to have done an 11 second run. After giving me a taste of the “power within” I believe that it might just pull it of.
Sitting on 16×7 gold Advan RG’s gives this Civic a great and clean look. I am very impressed at how well the details are addressed and work together to make it look finished. Not having a hood and showing off all of the guts gives this ride a character and really does not make me feel of ever wanting the hood back on.
The side profile really shows the great proportions that this vehicle has. Even by being small it does not show weakness and looks tough. The wing on the back helps to proportion it even better and is a great element.
The interior is unsurprisingly simple and is all function. I mean it’s a Honda not a Bentley.
Hawaii is a great place and I would suggest you all visit and enjoy the perfect weather and water all year round. So if one day you find yourself in Hilo and see this face in your rear view mirror, I suggest getting out of the way.
Thank you guys for reading and come back for more stories here on Farm of Minds.
Cheers,
Stanislav Kochil
